Congratulations to the children who had their First Holy Communion last Sunday. Míle Buíochas to Ms. Mahon for preparing them so well and also to the staff and parents. Gymnastics will resume on Wednesday. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

Fire Drill Procedures

Aims: To prevent panic & ensure the safe, orderly and efficient evacuation of all school occupants.

Whom: Anyone detecting a fire should sound the alarm. They may attack the fire using the nearest appropriate appliance without taking personal risks. Do not use water on electrical appliances.

Sequence; Tackle fire if appropriate- Sound Alarm- Evacuation- Assembly- Roll Call- Call the fire services- Signal; Fire alarm sounds.

Evacuation Procedure

1. On hearing the fire alarm, pupils push in their chair and line up at classroom door. Walk in single file to assembly point in field. Leave everything behind!
2. Teachers take roll books, check toilets and close doors behind them.
3. The teacher is the last to leave classroom.
4. Any pupil who is visiting another classroom for whatever reason is to leave the school with that class and make his/ her way to the assembly point.
5. Resource teachers/ visiting teachers exit with the children and go to the assembly point.
6. Staff members who do not have a child in their care should proceed directly to the assembly point.
7. Roll call at assembly point.
8. No child is to re- enter the building until the fire services allow.
9. Call the fire services on 999 or 112 from a mobile phone. Give the location of the school “Arles School situated on the Carlow- Portlaoise road approximately 7km from Griaguecullen, Carlow.”
