Congratulations to the children who had their First Holy Communion last Sunday. Míle Buíochas to Ms. Mahon for preparing them so well and also to the staff and parents. Gymnastics will resume on Wednesday. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

Hazard Identification & Prevention

• Periodic evaluation & replacement of broken/ old toys/ furniture/ equipment.
• Removal of hazards outside school.
• A ‘Safety Audit’ requested every year from Allianz insurances.
• Visits from Garda/ Fire Departments at various intervals.
• Fire drills are scheduled before the Hallowe’en break and after Christmas every year.
• First Aid boxes to be replenished when required.
• Fire Safety course delivered to all staff in Summer 2009.
• Procedures for fire evacuation have been developed & disseminated to all members of staff.
• A number of fire extinguishers are situated throughout the premises. They are inspected annually.
• Emergency lighting will remain lighted when the mains supply has failed. These lights are positioned near exit routes. There are emergency escape route signs over the doors to escape routes, which will remain lighted even in the event of a main power failure.
• The heating boiler is inspected/ serviced annually.
• Staff are advised to report any loose electrical connections, any electrical shock, any smell of burning, blackening of plugs/ leads etc.
• Damaged power leads are replaced & never repaired.
• All electrical work other than changing a fuse, bulb or plug is attended to by qualified personnel only.
• First Aid Course delivered to all members of staff in Spring 2010.
• Whole School Policy re books. All books must be left in school (except those required for homework) to ensure bags are not too heavy.
• The floor covering in the 3 classrooms have been replaced to include a non- slip section of wet areas.
• Cleaning takes place when the children have vacated the school.
• All cleaning equipment is stored in a locked cabinet.
• Only authorised personnel are allowed to use equipment such as the photocopier, shredder, laminator, projector, interactive whiteboard, microwave, kettle, burcoe boiler & mobile heater. He/ she is responsible for switching off & appropriate storage of each electrical item after use.
• Children (boys and girls) are not allowed to wear earrings due to the safety risk they pose during play.
• All classes are to complete the Stay Safe Programme each year.
• All classes are to complete the “Be Safe” Programme also.
• Each teacher on lunchtime supervision is to record any injury into “ The Incident Book”
• Each teacher must ensure that any parent/guardian collecting children before 2.10 (for infants) or 3.10 (1st -6th class) “sign out” and write the reason for this early departure.
• Any child leaving the school for a football match/training/school tour etc must have a signed permission slip.
• No child is given a lift in a teachers car to/ from matches.
• Teacher escorts children to swimming pool and parent’s council each Wednesday.
